Check out my Wednesday (4-10-24) Race 7 analysis at Keeneland below.
KEE 7 (OC-100k/1x, 3yo, 8.5f)
Primary – #5 ROCKETEER, #6 More Vino
Secondary – #2 Native Land, #3 Heartened, #1 San Siro
Horse Comments:
#5 Rocketeer (7-2) pressed the pace and earned his diploma by 4 lengths in his local extended sprint bow last fall. Brad Cox is strong with this type of layoff runner and is even better with his first lasix starters. He should get stamina from his sire Curlin and his dam Thirteen Arrows captured a pair of dirt sprint stakes races in 2015.
#6 More Vino (8-1) chased from second and edged away to score by a length and a quarter at first asking in a dirt route at Tampa Bay on March 10. Todd Pletcher does good work with his recent grads trying winners for the first time, and this $400k Vino Rosso colt sports back-to-back half-mile bullets for this engagement. Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the call and he is a profitable 25% route rider.
#2 Native Land (3-1) closed, led, and settled for the show as a 73-1 outsider in his dirt route bow at Oaklawn on Jan. 13. He pressed the pace and landed the place second time out, and came from the clouds to graduate by 6 1/4 lengths on March 13. His number jumped up last time and he is a solid threat in this event if that last speed rating was for real.
#3 Heartened (5-2) returned to dirt and ran a solid early-pressing race in his dirt route maiden win as the favorite at Tampa Bay on Feb. 10. He split a 10-horse field from the inside post in a slow early/fast late renewal of the Tampa Bay Derby on March 9. Todd Pletcher’s $55k Street Boss colt goes back on lasix and Flavien Prat is his new rider. He sports back-to-back Palm Beach Downs bullets for this.
#1 San Siro (6-1) got up by a nose in a maiden race originally scheduled for turf and run at 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track at Fair Grounds on March 9. He earned a decent late pace rating as the betting favorite last time. They paid $150k for this gelded son of Classic Empire and he will try to get involve late.
