Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running juvenile winners at 4 1/2 furlongs on dirt, . On the turf course, a stalked at 1.30-1 odds tallied at 6f, a last-to-first closer struck at 7-2 odds at one mile, a dueling favorite graduated at 6f, and a stalking favorite earned her diploma at 6f (rail at 30 feet). 

Edwin Maldonado guided home a pair of flat mile dirt winners.

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $45,361 and tickets with six winners paid $3,029.20. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $52.20.

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (5-4-24)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One dueling front running winner at one mile on dirt. On the turf course, a 9-2 stalker won the 6f opener,  a front runner won at 6f, a stalking favorite graduated at one mile, a 5-1 stalker won the Grade 2 Charles Whittingham at 1 1/4 miles, a 9-2 stalker tallied at 1 1/8 miles, and a 6-1 front runner captured the finale at 1 1/8 miles. 

Hector Berrios booted home three winners (2 turf). Armando Ayuso guided home two dirt sprint winners. Phil D’Amato (turf) and Mark Glatt  both saddled two winners. Craig Lewis saddled two dirt sprint winners and Ayuso rode both. John Sadler saddled two turf winners and Berrios rode both.

Top 4 Finishers: Gold Phoenix (IRE), Prince Abama (IRE), Planetario (BRZ), Office Naughty

This race served as prep for the Grade 3 San Juan Capistrano at 1 3/4 miles on turf (June 16). Planetario beat Offlee Naughty in the 2023 San Juan Cap, and both were in this race, but Gold Phoenix stole the headlines in a gritty head victory at 5-1 odds for FreyD’Amato. The stalker got the jump on his closing stablemate Prince Abama. Planetario rallied through traffic to finish a close third, and Offlee Naughty showed some late energy in an even fourth.   

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $83,381 tickets with six winners paid $44,574.50. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $515.90.

Santa Anita Recap for Sunday (5-5-24)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at six panels on dirt. On the turf course, a 41-1 first timer upset the 6f opener, a front running favorite graduated at 6f, a stalking favorite scored at one mile, a 17-1 stalker upset the applecart in the Senorita (G3) on the downhill course, a 29-1 bomber won from post 11 on the downhill course, and a 7-2 closer ended the card with a flat mile win (rail at 10 feet). 

Riding double for Juan Hernandez (dirt). Mark Glatt saddled two winners.

Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 5-5-24 

Grade 3 Senorita (6.5T hillside)
Fractions: 21.85, 43.58, 1:06.55, 1:12.91
Top 4 Finishers: Visually, Rascality, Laulne (FR), Girl of My Dreams

One of the longest shots on the board captured this event. Girl of My Dreams set the pace and weakened as expected. Post time favorite Laulne and Rascality were stalking the pace and waiting to pounce, but Visually finished best of all and scored by a length for Maldonado/Barocio. Rascality got second by a half-length over Laulne, and Girl of My Dreams weakened to fourth. Shamrockin, Antifona (FR), Alluring, and Flattery also ran. 

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $195,757 and nobody had all six winners. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was a sweet $4,980. There will be a Pick 6 carryover of $104,581 when live racing resumes on Friday, May 10.
