Check out my Monday (6-17-24) Presque Isle Downs Race 7 analysis below.

PID 7 (Tom Ridge, 6f all-weather) – Post Time 3:42pm EDT
Primary – #11 MR SKYLIGHT, #10 Apollo Ten
Secondary – #12 Vote No, #9 Twilight Dancer

Horse Comments:

#11 Mr Skylight (5-2) was second at 75-1 odds in his dirt sprint bow at Gulfstream in February, and graduated as the favorite at that same venue on March 16. He dueled and scored as the chalk at Keeneland in April, and had a bad start from the inside post and rallied for the show in the Chick Lang (G3) on the Preakness undercard at Pimlico last time. The track was muddy and speed favoring last out, and his show finish was better than it appears. He adds blinkers and is a logical contender if he handles the surface switch.

#10 Apollo Ten (9-2) stalked and scored in a turf sprint second time out, and was an even fourth in a turf sprint stakes race in his final 2023 outing. He returned with a front running win in an abbreviated turf sprint at Gulfstream on April 18. Christophe Clement’s colt improved his speed ratings in all four starts and fits with these if he handles all-weather footing.

#12 Vote No (8-1) won his local sprint debut last year under Monday’s rider Antonio Gallardo, and he captured a turf sprint stakes race at Kentucky Downs second time out. He stretched out and was third in the Bourbon (G2) at Keeneland last fall, and returned with a big all-weather stakes win at Turfway in January. He dueled and weakened in the Leonatus on Feb. 2, and turned back and raced evenly in the Animal Kingdom on March 23. He drilled a half-mile bullet for this on June 11. An outside stalking trip is likely.

#9 Twilight Dancer (6-1) might be competitive at a hint of a price. He moved to the Tim Girten barn and rolled to a big local victory as the favorite on June 4. Pablo Morales got to know him last time and he figures to stalk the pace while out in the clear. The sophomore gelding is 2-for-3 with a neck defeat at this distance.
