Check out my Sunday (7-21-24) Del Mar Race 9 analysis below.

DMR 9 (Wickerr, 8T) – Post Time 9:14pm EDT
Primary – #3 ALMENDARES, #9 Dandy Man Shines
Secondary – #8 Conclude, #10 Irideo

Horse Comments:

#3 Almendares (7-2) won two local turf routes last year and picked up minor awards in three graded turf races (G2 Del Mar Derby, G2 Mathis Mile, G3 Daytona). He stretches back out and returns to his winning course and distance. He should be heard from late under Antonio Fresu.

#9 Dandy Man Shines (12-1) exits back-to-back runner-up finishes in flat mile turf races at Santa Anita. The consistent gelding won a pair of local flat mile turf races last year including the restricted Let It Ride. Umberto Rispoli strings along and he should get pace to chase.

#8 Conclude (6-1) captured the Oceanside and G2 Del Mar Derby over this turf course last summer. He stalked and faded in his needed G1 Shoemaker Mile return. Phil D’Amato’s early-pressing colt is training fast for this and should impact the pace under Hector Berrios. His running style might do him in because others will be forwardly placed as well.

#10 Irideo (10-1) was in the graded ranks in his last three starts. He won this event in 2022 and was fourth last year. The deep closer might rally for a share at square odds.
