Check out my Wednesday (7-24-24) Saratoga Race 7 analysis below.
SAR 7 (G2 Honorable Miss Handicap, f&m, 6f) – Post Time 4:34pm EDT
Primary – #1 ACCEDE, #8 Munnys Gold
Secondary – #5 Sterling Silver, #6 Spirit Wind, #4 Clearly Unhinged
Horse Comments:
#1 Accede (4-1) is 2-for-2 at six panels and she is on a roll for Chad Brown. She rallied to win an allowance sprint at Keeneland to end her 2023 campaign. She stalked and scored in her Keeneland return in the spring, and battled on the pace and prevailed by a neck in the Bed o’ Roses at seven panels on June 15. She is 4-for-5 with a show finish in dirt sprints and she should save all the ground behind the speed under recently hot pilot Flavien Prat.
#8 Munnys Gold (2-1) drew outside the other speed. Todd Pletcher’s Florida-bred filly won her first three dirt sprints last year by a combined 37 1/4 lengths. She set the pace and missed by a head in the Eight Belles (G2), weakened to fourth in the Acorn (G1), and finished an okay third in the Test (G1). She wired the field as the favorite in her local allowance return on June 7. She is 2-for-2 at this distance and should be all over the pace.
#5 Sterling Silver (9-2) owns competitive numbers and might be rounding back into form. She won the Gallant Bloom (G2) last fall and started her current campaign with an extended sprint win at Tampa Bay. She split an 8-horse field in the Madison (G1), and split a 10-horse field in the Derby City Distaff (G1). She got class relief in a state bred stakes race on June 23 and ended up an even third as the beaten favorite. Bill Mott’s mare won a local extended sprint last summer and will try to get involved from off the pace.
#6 Spirit Wind (3-1) won six of her last ten starts. She wired the Sugar Swirl (G3) late last year and stalked from the outside post and won a stakes sprint at Lone Star as the favorite on May 27. She is fast enough to win this.
#4 Clearly Unhinged (5-1) won both starts since moving to the Steve Asmussen barn including a length and a half score in the Grade 3 Winning Colors on May 27. She stalked the pace and missed by a head in the local Test (G1) last summer.
