Horse Comments:
#10 Chasing the Crown (7-2) finished 1-2 in 9 of his last 10 starts (3 wins). He landed the place in his lone local turf try and Mike Maker always seems to have his horses ready to roll at this abbreviated, lucrative meet. Jose Ortiz booted this one home at CD on May 9 and he has been winning races with this outfit recently.
#5 Funtastic Again (9-5) is a stakes winner on all-weather ground and he ran well in both turf route attempts. He set the pace and held the place in the James Murphy at 8T last year, and pressed the pace and finished second in the G1 Shoemaker Mile on May 27. Johannes won that race and is 3-for-3 in graded turf route stakes races this year (G3 American, G1 Shoemaker Mile, G2 Eddie Read). Frankie Dettori got to know him last time and he should be all over the pace.
#3 Siege of Boston (8-1) was part of the trifecta in 7 of his last 9 starts. He usually puts in a nice late run but does not win often. He owns competitive speed ratings and should offer value.
#4 Irish Aces (6-1) completed the trifecta in his last two turf routes. This is a good distance for the closer and Gaffalione shows a +ROI with Walsh.
