#7 Rhino (3-1) chose this optional-claiming dirt sprint over Saturday’s E.B. Johnston Stakes at one mile. Rafael DeLeon claimed him for $25k on Aug. 22 and the 4-year-old gelding hit the board in all three dirt sprints. He adds blinkers and Tiago Pereira takes the call, and this one rallied wide from an outer post to miss by a head in a similar race at this course and distance on July 7.
#1 Known Idea (9-5) is the inside speed for profitable turf/dirt trainer John Sadler. He graduated in a dirt sprint and his new pilot Tyler Baze is a 17% sprint rider. They might not get to him if he shakes loose early.
#4 Danzing Rebel (8-1) ran last in a turf route at Santa Rosa last time. That was his first turf attempt and he did not handle the footing. He fired in multiple all-weather sprints at Golden Gate and handled dirt in a clear runner-up finish at Pleasanton on June 16. Armando Ayuso is a good longshot rider (+ROI w/430 mounts this year) and he might be able to spice up the exotics.
#2 Spiritual Advisor (7-2) is 1-for-13 overall and has been stuck at this level for quite some time. He hit the board in multiple races vs. this kind and can be used underneath.
