Horse Comments:
#2 Coffee in Bed (8-5) gets class relief after six straight graded attempts. She ran into Adare Manor in her last pair and was second to that one in the Santa Margarita (G2). She won the Grade 2 Santa Maria earlier this year and her new rider Kyle Frey is a profitable 21% route rider. She never fired over a speed favoring surface in the Clement L. Hirsch (G1) last time, and she ran a similar race in the Beholder Mile (G1) in March and bounced back with a graded victory in her next start.
#4 Show Card (6-5) won 3 of her last 4 starts including a walk in the park in the restricted Tranquility Lake on Sept. 2. Juan Hernandez rides her well and he has been clicking with Bob Baffert recently. She should make her presence felt from the outset and is a logical win contender if able to maintain sharp form in her second start after a layoff.
#1 Ascendancy (6-1) was in chase mode vs. Show Card last time and she raced wide and could not keep up. She is 4-for-6 at one mile and her new pilot Armando Ayuso is a strong route rider. I am expecting a more patient ground saving trip this time.
