Check out my Sunday (9-22-24) Laurel Park Race 8-9 analysis below.
LRL 8 (Weather Vane, 3-year-old fillies, 6f dirt) – Post Time 3:43 PM ET
Primary – #10 CAP CLASSIQUE, #13 Youalmosthadme
Secondary – #8 Vincey Girl, #6 Irish Maxima, #4 Carmelina
Horse Comments:
#10 Cap Classique (9-2) chose this race over Saturday’s Dogwood at Churchill Downs. She stalked the pace and missed by a neck in a seven panel stakes race at Colonial Downs on Aug. 11. She ran well in all three starts at Laurel including a stakes win at this trip last fall, and her new rider Ben Curtis is a profitable 21% sprint pilot.
#13 Youalmosthadme (7-2) added blinkers and won the Lady Erie as the favorite on all-weather ground last time. Brad Cox’s consistent filly captured half of her ten starts and has never finished out of the trifecta.
#8 Vincey Girl (6-1) might be the right one if a pace battle develops. She broke last of 10 from the outside post and split the field as a 56-1 outsider in the Grade 2 Charles Town Oaks on Aug. 23. She won two straight prior to her last and drilled a half-mile gate bullet for this at Monmouth on Sept. 11.
#6 Irish Maxima (10-1) wired the field in 3 of 5 dirt starts. This is her first local attempt and she should be all over the pace.
#4 Carmelina (4-1) made a middle move before weakening as a 23-1 outsider in the Grade 3 Prioress at Saratoga on Aug. 31. Her lone local attempt resulted in a wire-to-wire victory in the Gin Talking late last year.

LRL 9 (Twixt, Fillies and Mares, One Mile dirt) – Post Time 4:12 PM ET
Primary – #7 MYSTIC PLEASURE, #3 Miss New York
Secondary – #2 Continentalcongres
Horse Comments:
#7 Mystic Pleasure (5-2) should attend the pace from the outside post. She stalked and scored in a dirt sprint at Ellis Park on July 7 and the runner-up was a next-out winner. She set the pace from the inside post in the Groupie Doll at this distance on Aug. 11 and ended up a close third. I like the outside draw for the early-pressing filly.
#3 Miss New York (4-1) stalked slow fractions and kicked clear to win a local optional-claiming event at 1 1/16 miles on Aug. 17. She scratched from the Obeah at Delaware Park earlier this week. This is her third start of the year and she projects a tactical trip under her winning rider Daniel Centeno.
#2 Continentalcongres (6-1) made the lead and was clearly second best when finishing 3 1/2 lengths behind Miss New York last time. She ran well in her last three local dirt starts and is probably the one to catch.
