Horse Comments:
#3 Iron Man Cal (3-1) was an even fourth from the outside post in his 5T bow at 10-1 odds. He was the favorite at 8T second time out and he stalked and scored in a sharp effort.
#8 Cali Cat (6-1) was 9-2 in his dirt sprint bow and he stalked for a half-mile before fading to 9th of 10 (beaten 14 lengths). He was the favorite in a turf route second time out had a stunning reversal of fortunes. He stalked and kicked away last time and the $190k purchase needs to work out a trip from the outside post for the productive Hernandez/Sadler team. Barn is strong with grads trying winners for the first time.
#2 Kale’s Angel (8-1) set a pressured pace and faded as the beaten favorite in his 5T bow. He was 4-1 in his second turf sprint and he stalked and scored by 2 lengths in a much better effort. Armando Ayuso is his new rider and he shows a profit on turf, and a stalking trip is expected. He chose this route over Saturday’s Speakeasy at 5T.
#6 R Heisman (9-2) switches surfaces and stretches out in distance. He removes blinkers, Peter Miller shows a profit with his first route starters, and Umberto Rispoli got acquainted with him in the G1 Del Mar Futurity last time. He earned a decent number when winning the Graduation Stakes vs. CA-breds on Aug. 9.
#5 Artislas (7-2) won both turf starts at DMR for Reylu Gutierrez and Jeff Mullins (3-for-6 jockey-trainer team). He won at 13-1 odds in his 5T bow and stalked from the inside post and beat a dozen rivals in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf at 7-1 odds at 8T last time. He should be competitive in this spot but I would not want to take too short of a price because others are faster on the speed rating scale.
