Check out my Sunday (10-13-24) Santa Anita Park Race 7 analysis below.
SA 7 (California Flag Handicap, CA-bred, 6.5T hillside) – Post Time 7:00 PM ET
Primary – #6 ON THE WHIM, #1 Johnny Podres
Secondary – #7 Fast Buck, #8 None Above the Law
Horse Comments:
#6 On the Whim (5-2) turns back in his third start after a layoff and Dean Pederson is 30% with his non-graded stakes starters. Tiago Pereira booted this one home in January and he is 2-for-3 with this outfit. He ran well in his last pair including a CA-bred stakes win in the California Dreamin’ at 8.5T, and he chased from second and graduated in his course/distance bow last fall.
#1 Johnny Podres (9-5) competed in the graded ranks in 3 of his last 4 starts and he landed the place in the Green Flash (G3). He won the Sensational Star at this course/distance vs. state breds in March. Umberto Rispoli rode him from the inside post in the Eddie D (G2) last time and he found his best stride too late when finishing 6th of11 (beaten 3 3/4 lengths).
#7 Fast Buck (4-1) removed blinkers and set the pace in the Eddie D (G2), and he weakened to 5th of 11 at 24-1 odds. He puts blinkers back on and he is 4-for-8 at SA and 1-for-4 at 6.5T. He is probably the one to catch.
#8 None Above the Law (5-1) turns back and drops in class after finishing 6th of 8 in the Pacific Classic (G1) at 10f on dirt. He is 0-for-8 at SA and 0-for-3 with a pair of underneath finishes at this distance, and he might rally for a share under Mike Smith.
