Check out my Friday (11-15-24) Del Mar Race 8 analysis below.

DMR 8 (OC-100k, 8T) – Post Time 7:03 PM ET
Primary – #1 ROYAL CHARTER, #5 Yerwanthere
Secondary – #8 Ang N Ash, #2 Gracelund Gray, #3 Sneaker

Horse Comments:

#1 Royal Charter (5-1) needs to get back to her most effective style, and that is to sit back and make a run in the stretch. The expected race flow should allow her to do just that. She stalked and scored in her US bow at 8T April 6. She rallied to miss by a half-length in a similar local 8.5T affair Aug. 11, and she finished a head in front of Yerwanthere that day. She set the pace and weakened to 5th of 7 in the John C. Mabee (G2) at 9T Sept. 7, and chased from the inside post and failed to quicken in a 7th of 9 finish (beaten 4 3/4 lengths) in the restricted Swingtime Oct. 14. Recently hot rider Kazushi Kimura takes the call and the price might be right.

#5 Yerwanthere rallied to hit the board in her last four turf routes including a runner-up finish in the restricted Swingtime Oct. 14. Umberto Rispoli strings along and she should get pace to chase.

#8 Ang N Ash (8-1) was part of the trifecta in 8 of her last 9 starts. The 3-year-old filly is 2-for-3 at DMR but those two wins were at 5T, and she is 0-for-2 with a show finish at 8T. Hector Berrios is 2-for-3 with this outfit recently and he booted this one home as the favorite at 6.5T Oct. 26.

#2 Gracelund Gray (7-2) stretches back out in her first start in 7+ months. She pressed and scored in a local turf route in 2022, and her other turf route win was a flat mile wire job at SA (October 2023). She hit the board in back-to-back turf sprint stakes earlier this year, and dueled and weakened to 5th of 7 (beaten 2 lengths) in the Monrovia (G3) at 6.5T April 6. Antonio Fresu is 2-for-6 with Peter Eurton recently and she should be all over the pace along with a few others.

#3 Sneaker (8-1) finished out of the top three in all three stakes tries including a 4th of 10 in the Autumn Miss (G3) Oct. 27. She fired trifecta shots in 6 of 7 non-stakes starts and should make her presence felt from the outset. Mike Smith is 3-for-3 with George Papaprodromou recently.
