Del Mar Recap for Friday (11-15-24)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running winners at six panels on dirt. On the turf course, a front running favorite scored at 8.5f, a 5-2 dueling front runner tallied at 5f, a 7-1 stalking first timer graduated at 5f, and a 5-2 last-to-first closer won the flat mile finale (rail at 24 feet). 

Umberto Rispoli booted home the late double. Michael McCarthy saddled two winners. 

Nov. 15 Claims: Race 1 – Venice Vibe ($32k, Peter Miller). Race 4 – A Real Jewel ($25k, Jesus Ramos). Race 5 – Playing Hardball ($10k, Samuel Clavario), Sunrise Journey ($10k, Jesus Uranga).  

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $78,711 and tickets with six winners paid $16,019.30. Tickets with five winners paid $129.20.

Del Mar Recap for Saturday (11-16-24)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running sprint winners on dirt (7f, 5.5f). The other two dirt sprint winners chased from 2nd. On the turf course, a dueling favorite graduated in the 5f opener, a 3-1 stalker earned her diploma at 8f, a 5-2 stalker got up by a head at 5f, a 7-1 stalker graduated at 5f, and a 10-1 front runner picked up her first win in the flat mile maiden claiming finale (rail at 12 feet). 

Armando Ayuso and Antonio Fresu (dirt sprints) both booted home a pair. Steve Knapp saddled two maiden sprint winners.  

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-16-24 

Desi Arnaz (7f): Practical Dream broke fast from the inside post under Antonio Fresu and she took the race to heavy favorite Silent Law. Tim Yakteen’s filly was clear after a half-mile in 45.20 and she did not let Silent Law get any closer to her, and she scored by a length and a quarter. She paid $10.60 to win and the final time was 1:24.47. Silent Law held off her stablemate Mawu for the place and Two Bar trailed throughout. Baffert said before this race that Mawu wanted to route and she finished well and figures to go two turns in the near future. 

Nov. 16 Claims: Race 4 – Red On Sunday ($14k, Steve Knapp), Southern Slang ($16k, Peter Miller). Race 6 – P Town Prancer ($50k, Doug O’Neill). 

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $78,560 and nobody had six winners. Tickets with five winners paid $571.10. There will be a Pick 6 carryover of $47,965 when live racing resumes Sunday.

Del Mar Recap for Sunday (11-17-24)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running sprint winner at 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. On the turf course, a 9-1 closer got up by a neck in the 5f opener, 5-1 stalker Sarwar stalked and missed by a nose at 8f and was placed first through disqualification, a dueling 9-2 first timer graduated at 5f, a 6-1 stalker tallied at one mile, and a front running favorite won the flat mile finale (rail at 12 feet). 

Hat trick for Umberto Rispoli (2 turf wins). Juan Hernandez guided home two dirt sprint winners. Michael McCarthy saddled a pair of 2-year-old winners (Journalism, Bullard), and they both might hop on the Derby trail next year. 

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-17-24

Grade 3 Bob Hope (7f): Kalea Bay, McKinzie Street, and Maximus mixed it up early through splits of 21.63 and 43.93, and they set the table for race favorite Bullard ($4.20). The latter was patiently handled under Umberto Rispoli, and he rolled home from off the pace to score by 4 3/4 lengths. First time starter Madaket Road rallied to finish a clear 2nd, and show finisher McKinzie Street was 11 lengths clear of Maximus. Kalea Bay eased and Dr Ruben M scratched. The final time was 1:22.55.  

Nov. 22 Claims: Race 3 – Escape Artist ($100k, Steve Knapp). 

The $1 Pick 6 carryover pool was $402,697 and tickets with six winners paid $2,772.00. Tickets with five winners paid $29.90.
