Check out my Wednesday (1-8-25) Gulfstream Park Race 8 analysis below.
GP 8 (OC-75k/1x, 3yo fillies, 5 furlongs all-weather) – Post Time 4:04 PM ET
Primary – #3 LAURICE, #2 Patriotic War
Secondary – #5 Obliging
Horse Comments:
#3 Laurice (5-2) pressed and prevailed by a half-length at 7-2 odds in her 5.5T bow at SAR Aug. 31. She pressed outside, dueled, and ended up 5th of 12 (beaten 2 1/2 lengths) in the Matron (G3) at 6T Oct. 6, and runner-up Civetta was a next-out stakes winner in the Wait a While. The $460k Bolt d’Oro filly adds blinkers and lasix, and she reunites with her winning rider Junior Alvarado. She earned strong pace ratings in both turf sprints and is a logical win contender if she handles the all-weather track.
#2 Patriotic War (9-5) is tough to figure out. She was 3-1 in her all-weather sprint bow at WO Nov. 2 and she made the lead through moderate fractions and won easily by 3 lengths. She was the favorite in the Clarendon vs. ON-breds second time out and she chased above par fractions and ended up a disappointing 4th of 6 (beaten 5 1/2 lengths). Ortiz Jr. wins races with Mark Casse and the $280k War of Will filly should impact the pace, but she does not look quick enough to make the early lead.
#5 Obliging (6-1) might hit the board at a hint of a price. She competed in the stakes ranks on four occasions and is entered for the $75k tag. This is an easier spot and she owns running style versatility.
