Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (3-15-25)

Fast main track and good turf course. No front running winners on dirt. Tactical types best on the main track. On the turf course, a 5-1 front runner graduated in the 6f opener, a stalking favorite won at one mile, a 5-1 pace prompter won at 6f, last-to-first closer Lady Claypoole (IRE) won the Grade 3 Santa Ana (10f) at 11-1 odds, and a 10-1 closer graduated in the 6f finale.

Tiago Pereira booted home a pair. Richard Baltas saddled two winners.

Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-15-25

Grade 3 Santa Ana (1 1/4 miles turf): Omaha Girl carved out the fractions as expected and she was not around at the end as a 20-1 outsider. This race was dominated by patient runners and Lady Claypoole (IRE) went last-to-first from the inside post and crossed the line 2 1/2 lengths in front of Mrs. Astor. The latter rallied through traffic under Umberto Rispoli and overseas shipper Starry Heavens (IRE) completed the trifecta. My 11-1 top choice Mahina was fourth, and beaten favorite Kathynmarissa, Big Hug, and Omaha Girl completed the order of finish. Tiago Pereira rode the 11-1 winner for Richard Baltas. Fractions: 23.75, 47.70, 1:12.36, 1:37.45, 2:01.40.

The $2 Pick 6 pool was $333,971 and there were no tickets with six winners. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $7,646,20. There will be a 2-day Pick 6 carryover of $218,963 when live racing resumes on Sunday.

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at one mile on dirt. Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 3-16-25

Irish O’Brien (6.5T hillside): Pushiness set the pace as expected and she dug in on the rail, but stalker Prancingthruparis ($24.00) moved wide and was slightly best by a half-length. Beaten favorite Shocking Grey chased from second and weakened to 5th, and Lamborghini and Tam’s Little Angel also ran. Armando Ayuso rode the winner for Peter Eurton.
