Check out my Tuesday (3-18-25) Fair Grounds Race 8 analysis below.
FG 8 (MSW, 3YO, 8T) – Post Time 5:15 PM ET
Primary – #8 FOLIGNO, #3 Susan’s Boy
Secondary – #6 Sabertooth, #11 Dr. Niko
Horse Comments:
#8 Foligno (7-2) chased from second and missed by a nose in his 5.5T bow in November. Star’s Image was the chalk that day and he got clear early and just held, and clicked right back in December. This Nyquist colt stretched out and removed blinkers second time out, and race favorite Reagan’s Wit rallied from 10th and dominated by 8 lengths, and that one ran Chad Brown trainee Zulu Kingdom (IRE) to a neck in the Columbia Stakes at TAM March 8. Brad Cox’s runner puts blinkers back on and Florent Geroux takes the call and he wins races with this outfit.
#3 Susan’s Boy (5-1) stalked wide from post 12 and disappointed at 5-2 odds in his local turf route debut in December, and winner Tom’s Magic scored again in the Black Gold March 1. They paid $850k for this Candy Ride colt and dam has tossed a turf winner, and he could easily look much improved for the productive Ortiz/DeVaux team.
#6 Sabertooth (3-1) is a California transplant now trained by Brittany Russell, and she is a profitable 31% with new additions to her barn. He is 0-for-8 with six runner-up finishes and a show finish at this distance on turf, and he was the beaten favorite on three occasions. He adds blinkers and Jaime Torres is 2-for-5 with this outfit.
#11 Dr. Niko (10-1) finished up the track in his turf route debut last fall and winner Flying Mohawk captured his next start at FG Jan. 30. This one adds lasix and returns as a gelding, and I like the looks of his last two local works.
