Check out my Friday (3-28-25) Santa Anita Park Race 7 analysis below.

SA 7 (OC-50k/1x, 10T) – Post Time 7:08 PM ET
Primary – #5 MALTESE FALCON, #1 El Rey Rey
Secondary – #8 Zalamo, #9 None Above the Law

Horse Comments:

#5 Maltese Falcon (9-2) drops out of the OC-80k/2x ranks. His last win was at this course/distance as the chalk at the OC-50k/1x level, and since he already cleared this condition, he is entered for the $50k tag. He drilled a half-mile bullet for this March 21 and the closer reconnects with his winning rider Hector Berrios.

#1 El Rey Rey (9-2) stalked and scored in a local 9T affair for Jeff Mullins Feb. 1 and the 2-3 finishers were next-out winners. He was claimed for $50k by Hector Palma and he stalked and scored again in a local starter allowance affair at 9T Feb. 28 (earned improved number). Profitable turf rider Tiago Pereira got to know him last time and he is a profitable 27% with this barn. The 3-time local winner should save ground stalking the pace and is a logical contender if he handles the longer distance of this race.

#8 Zalamo (5-1) rallied to win a flat mile starter allowance affair Jan. 31, and he was an even 5th of 12 in a similar 9T affair March 1. He rallied for the place in his lone 10T attempt May 2024.

#9 None Above the Law (7-2) was in the Miller barn from 2020 through February 2024 and won four stakes races including the G2 Del Mar Derby in 2021. Jorge Periban claimed him for $50k on 2-24-24 and he won the Bertrando Stakes last June. He placed in a pair of state bred stakes after that, and he was up the track in a dirt route March 8 and Peter Miller reached in and re-claimed him for $50k. He puts blinkers back on and has back class.
