Horse Comments:
#7 Kay Cup (9-5) stalked the pace and was a clear third at 8-1 odds in her local 7f bow last summer (Valtellina 1st). The $100k Instagrand filly disappeared for 7+ months and returned with a sharp win as the strong favorite at AQU April 27, and the clear, distant show finisher was a next-out winner. She drew a comfortable post and Irad Ortiz, Jr. should have her in a nice tactical spot, and Jorge Abreu is a profitable 22% in the non-graded ranks.
#6 Valtellina (5-2) exits back-to-back flat mile wins and I like her tactical speed. She beat Kay Cup in her career debut at this course/distance last summer.
#2 Bernieandtherose (3-1) finished a close third in her 6.5f bow and she won all four starts since (2 wins at 7f – 2 wins at 8f). These longer sprints around one turn are right up her alley and she might be able to win her third straight state bred stakes race.
#5 Accelerating (5-1) wired the field in both local state bred starts at 6f last summer under Jose Ortiz, and was up the track in both 2025 outings at OP. Steve Asmussen’s $325k Mitole filly is back with NY-breds in her third start after a layoff and she should impact the pace at her winning venue.
