Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 7-25-25

Fleet Treat (CA-bred, 7f): Sunset Grazen and Young Love scratched. Drink This Cup was the favorite and she stalked the pace and retreated to last of 10. Om N Joy ($7.60) dominated this one and I do not know how she was not the favorite. She was patiently handled under Kent D and she made a strong run from off the pace and won by 4 1/4 lengths. Hot Girl Walk rallied for the place and Lady Mendelssohn stalked the pace and edged In the Air Tonight for the show. Going Deep, Fibonaccis Ride, Hurricane Layla, Cooling Off, Ellen Jorth, and Drink This Cup rounded out the order of finish. Aggie Ordonez saddled the winner. Om N Joy has won four straight including three consecutive state bred stakes, and she is expected to run next in the Torrey Pines (G3) at DMR on Aug. 30. Fractions: 21.86, 44.69, 1:10.46, 1:23.23.

Del Mar Recap for Saturday (7-26-25)

Fast main track and firm turf course. No front running winners on dirt. On the turf course, a front running favorite earned his diploma in the flat mile opener, a dueling front running favorite scored at 5f, a front running favorite scored at 5f, a 6-2 stalker graduated at one mile, front running favorite Pushiness held on by a nose in the Daisycutter (5T), and a 9-1 closer captured the flat mile finale (rail at 18 feet).

Juan Hernandez (turf) booted home three winners. Antonio Fresu guided home the early double. Flavien Prat and Bob Baffert teamed up for two winners (Brant, Nysos).

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 7-26-25

Grade 2 San Diego Handicap (8.5f): Midnight Mammoth scratched and that left 5-horses to face Nysos and the result was predictable. Mirahmadi set the pace and gave it his all, but his stablemate Nysos ($2.20) was always going to win this race, and he stalked inside, found running room in the stretch, and edged away to win by 2 3/4 lengths under Flavien Prat’s hand urging. Mirahmadi was clearly second best and Tarantino, Hall of Fame, Express Train, and Judge Miller also ran. This was a prep for the Pacific Classic (G1) and Nysos is targeting that event. Bob Baffert saddled the 1-2 finishers. Fractions: 23.49, 46.91, 1:10.82, 1:36.30, 1:42.61.

Daisycutter Handicap (5T): Pushiness ($6.60) set the pace from post 10 and held off stalker Uncorked (AUS) to win by a nose. 64-1 longshot Visually was along for the show and Imaboutago (IRE), Lovin’ On the Run, Grannie Budgie (GB), Ang N Ash, Schiliflied, Chismosa, and Spicybug also ran. Juan Hernandez guided home the winner for Michael McCarthy. Fractions: 22.46, 45.14, 56.88.

Grade 1 Bing Crosby (6f): Hejazi was pressed early and he opened up by 2 1/2 lengths in the stretch and briefly looked home free, but longshot Lovesick Blues ($39.20) had a full head of steam from off the pace and won by 1 3/4 lengths. Hejazi was second best and World Record stalked the pace and was best of the rest in third as the favorite. Dr. Venkman, Roll On Big Joe, Crazy Mason, Smooth Cruisein, Spirit of Makena, and Mbagnick (CHI) completed the order of finish. Geovanni Franco rode the winner for Librado Barocio. Fractions: 21.78, 44.48, 56.37, 1:08.74.

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 7-27-25

Grade 2 Eddie Read (9T): Atitlan and Gold Phoenix (IRE) scratched and they were both logical contenders from off the pace. Cabo Spirit got out there and controlled the pace but he could not keep Formidable Man ($3.60) at bay. The latter stalked inside under Umberto Rispoli and caught Cabo Spirit in the stretch and won by a length. Cabo Spirit was clearly second best and Stay Hot edged Balnikov (IRE) for the show. The latter made a wide middle move and flattened out in the lane. Dicey Mo Chara (GB) and Balladeer also ran. Michael McCarthy saddled the winning favorite. Fractions: 24.97, 49.00, 1:13.64, 1:37.32, 1:48.55.
