The Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds was the latest Kentucky Oaks 2026 prep race and Taken by the Wind stole the candy on the front end. A baker’s dozen Oaks points races have been run so far, and in this report, I will recap the Silverbulletday, update the points standings, and share my top five Oaks fillies.
I cover all of the Kentucky Oaks points race on my Runaway Horse YouTube channel, and through the first 13 points races, my top choices have 5 wins, 3 runner-up finishes, and 4 show finishes. There are no Oaks Points races this week, and we are back on the Oaks trail on Jan. 31 with the Forward Gal and Martha Washington.
Kentucky Oaks 2026 Points Race Recaps
Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds (1-17-26): Nobody seemed to want the early lead and Taken by the Wind was a length to the good after the opening quarter. She was walking on the front end and Luv Your Neighbor chased from second and Atropa tracked the pace from the inside post. Due to the below par fractions, Taken by the Wind ($10.80) had enough left to hold off Luv Your Neighbor and prevailed by a neck, and it was another neck back to clear show finisher Atropa. Pashmina (4th), Dancin in Old Town (5th), and White Smoke (6th) also ran. Brian Hernandez, Jr. rode the winner for Ken McPeek. Fractions: 25.69, 50.24, 1:14.49, 1:39.22, 1:43.58.

Jarrod Horak’s Fabulous Five Kentucky Oaks 2026 Contenders (1-20-26)
#1 – BELLA BALLERINA (Street Sense – Pretty City Dancer, by Tapit) – Trainer: Brendan Walsh – Last Ranking (1)
Comments: She defeated Atropa in the Golden Rod (G2) at Churchill in November and she is wintering in Louisiana. She has worked three times at Fair Grounds this year including a half-mile move in 49.00 (20/86) on Jan. 16.
#2 – ZANY (American Pharoah – Mo’ Green, by Uncle Mo) – Trainer: Todd Pletcher – Last Ranking (2)
Comments: This filly smartly won both starts last year including the Demoiselle (G2) at 1 1/8 miles on Dec. 6. She has worked four times at Palm Beach Downs since the Demoiselle including a half-mile move in 50.14 (10/16) on Jan. 17.
#3 – SUPER CORREDORA (Gun Runner – Super Simple, by Super Saver) – Trainer: John Sadler – Last Ranking (3)
Comments: The front running BC Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner shows six works at Santa Anita since her last outing including back-to-back 5f bullets on Jan. 11 and Jan. 19. The Las Virgenes on Feb. 8 is her next scheduled start.
#4 – EXPLORA (Blame – Collections Choice, by Bernardini) – Trainer: Bob Baffert – Last Ranking (5)
Comments: She was part of the exacta in all five starts with stakes wins in the Oak Leaf (G2) at 1 1/16 miles last fall and the listed Santa Ynez at seven panels on Jan. 10. She will get back around two turns next time.
#5 – ATROPA (Into Mischief – Bellera, by Bernardini) – Trainer: Cherie DeVaux – Last Ranking (4)
Comments: I was expecting a bit more from her in the Silverbulletday on Jan. 17 but Taken by the Wind was crawling on the front end, and this filly was stuck chasing the pace from the inside post and could not quite catch the two early runners. She will need to run faster next time and it is possible that she comes back in the Rachel Alexandra (G2) on Feb. 14.
