Check out my Saturday (5-17-25) Pimlico Race Course Race 11 analysis below.
PIM 11 (James W. Murphy, 8T) – Post Time 4:53 PM ET
Primary – #7 REAGAN’S WIT, #3 Clock Tower
Secondary – #6 Soleil Volant, #5 End of Romance
Horse Comments:
#7 Reagan’s Wit (5-2) is a decent sort for Cherie DeVaux. He stalked the pace and landed the place in his 8T bow at Ellis Park last summer. He added lasix second time out Jan. 20 and produced a big late kick to graduate by 8 lengths over a course labeled good at 8.5T (runner-up next-out winner). He shipped to TAM and I made him my top choice in the Columbia at 8T March 8, and he stalked the pace and finished a neck behind talented Chad Brown runner Zulu Kingdom (4-time stakes winner). I picked him again in the G3 Transylvania at KEE April 7 and he rallied mildly to finish 4th of 12 as the beaten chalk. Jose Ortiz stays put and he might go better in his third start after a layoff. He should win this if he runs back to his Columbia number, and Zulu Kingdom flattered that race when he clicked right back in the G1 American Turf.
#3 Clock Tower (5-2) scratched out of Wednesday’s Caesars Handicap at Horseshoe Indy when that race was moved to dirt, and he might be the one to catch under Ortiz Jr. He is 2-for-2 at this distance including a stakes score in the Cecil B. DeMille (G3) at DMR last fall. They tried him in a Derby points race in the Robert Lewis (G3) and he was beaten 13 lengths, and he returned to turf, battled on the pace, and weakened to 8th of 12 in the G3 Transylvania April 7. He might get brave if able to shake loose early.
#6 Soleil Volant (7-2) exits a show finish in an optional-claiming turf route at LRL and the number came back relatively fast for a race of that caliber. Flavien Prat takes the call and Motion’s Karakontie colt might be getting good at the right time. I do not know what to do with
#5 End of Romance (9-2). He won at 6T in GB and won an all-weather extended sprint in that country as well. He shipped to the states and rallied for the show in the Rushaway, and ended up 5th by a length in the Woodhaven at 8T. He reconnects with John Velazquez and would appreciate some pace help.
