Del Mar Recap for Thursday (8-14-25)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6f on dirt. On the turf course, a stalking favorite graduated in the 5f opener, a 1.80-1 stalker scored at 5f, a 13-1 front runner tallied at 5f, and a 7-1 closer won at 1 3/8 miles (rail at 24 feet). 

Ruben Silvera guided home two winners. 

August 14 Claims: Race 2 – Blue Fashion ($10k, Luis Mendez), Exington ($10k, Steve Miyadi). Race 6 – Bag’s Gold ($6250k, Steve Knapp), Halo Uncle ($6250k, Jesus Uranga). 

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $91,190 and tickets with six winners paid $56,677.20. Tickets with five winners paid $409.30.

Del Mar Recap for Friday (8-15-25)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One front running winner at 6.5f on dirt. On the turf course, a stalking favorite won the 8.5f opener, a 2-1 midpack stalker graduated at 8.5f, 9-2 front runner Alpha Bella stole the CTT & TOC at 1 3/8 miles, and a 7-2 front runner captured the flat mile finale (rail at 24 feet). 

Hector Berrios guided home three winners (2 turf routes). Peter Eurton and Andy Mathis (2 maiden wins) both saddled two winners. John Sadler also saddled two winners and Berrios rode both.   

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-15-25 

CTT & TOC (11T): Alpha Bella ($11.40) found her friends, controlled the pace through dawdling splits, and went all the way for Hector Berrios and John Sadler. She also enjoyed the added ground of this race and turned away race favorite Mrs. Astor and won by 2 1/2 lengths over late runner Starry Heavens (IRE). Mrs. Astor held the show over Nadette (FR), and Kentucky Gal (IRE), Sakura Blossom, Khinjani (GB), Venganza, Sunset Glory (IRE), and Sun of Hill (BRZ) also ran. Fractions: 25.94, 51.51, 1:17.23, 1;42.33, 2:05.66, 2:17.32.    

August 15 Claims: Race 1 – Trusty Rusty ($32k, Robert Hess, Jr.), Uncle Happy ($32k, Leonard Powell). Race 2 – Madiha ($16k, Isidro Tamayo), Tennesseehoneybee ($14k, Sean Williams). Race 4 – Don’t Fly Stand By ($16k, Librado Barocio), Panuco ($16k, Gary Stute). Race 7 – Dirty Words ($20k, Doug O’Neill). 

The $1 Pick 6 pool was $130,002 and there were no tickets with six winners. Tickets with five winners paid $826.80. There will be a Pick 6 carryover of $79,373 when live racing resumes on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Del Mar Recap for Saturday (8-16-25)

Fast main track and firm turf course. One dueling front running winner at one mile on dirt. On the turf course, a stalking favorite scored at 5f, a last-to-first closer graduated at 8-1 odds at 8f, a stalking favorite tallied at 8.5f, midpack stalker Velocity upset the 9f Del Mar Oaks (G1) at 35-1 odds, and a pressing favorite earned her diploma at 8.5f in the finale  (rail at 12 feet). 

Hat trick for Umberto Rispoli (2 turf wins). Ricky Gonzalez guided home two turf route winners. Phil D’Amato saddled two turf route winners. 

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-16-25

Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks (9T): The pace was contested and the final result was a surprise. Post time favorite Thought Process was third early, and she moved up, put away the overmatched early runners, and took the lead, but the race was not over. Lush Lips (GB) was closing outside and Velocity found her best stride inside, and the latter was moving best of all under Ricky Gonzalez and she won by a half-length and paid $72. Lush Lips got up for the place and Thought Process saved the show and appeared to have been done in by the added distance. Take a Breath (GB) rallied from last of 11 to complete the superfecta, and she was followed by Will Then, Slick (IRE), Firenze Flavor, Casalu, Edge of Mali (IRE), Resolve, and Striver (pulled up, walked off). Michael McCarthy saddled the winner for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. Fractions: 23.22, 46.98, 1:11.48, 1:36.20, 1:48.45.   

August 16 Claims: Race 6 – Gypsy Woman ($50k, Tim Yakteen). Race 9 – Contrary Chieftain ($12.5k, Mark Glatt), Four O Six Creed ($12.5k, Jeff Mullins), Get Her Number ($12.5k, Antonio Garcia), Joint Venture ($12.5k, Ron Ellis). 

The $1 Pick 6 carryover pool was $667,081 and tickets with six winners paid $25,613.90. Tickets with five winners paid $130.70.

Del Mar Recap for Sunday (8-17-25)

Fast main track and firm turf course. Two front running sprint winners on dirt (5.5f, 6f). Pressers won the other two main track races at 5.5f. On the turf course, a closing favorite graduated in the flat mile opener, a stalking favorite won at 8.5f, a 40-1 midpack stalker pulled off the upset at 5f, front running favorite Grand Slam Smile captured the Solana Beach at one mile, and a front running favorite earned her diploma in the flat mile finale (rail at 12 feet). 

Antonio Fresu booted home a pair. 

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 8-17-25

Solana Beach (CA-bred, 8T): Grand Slam Smile ($4.60) got control of this flat mile turf race early under William Antongeorgi. She was clear throughout and turned away stalker Sneaker and won by a half-length. Sneaker chased the winner throughout and settled for the place, and Cornelia Fort got going too late and was a clear third. Wink and a Grin, Prancingthruparis, Moment’s Pleasure, California Rocks, Only One America, and Hot Girl Walk also ran. Dorie Miller and Miso Phansy scratched. Sean McCarthy saddled the winner. Fractions: 22.65, 46.77, 1:10.69, 1:22.60, 1:34.92. 

Aug. 17 Claims: Race 3 – Crosby Beach ($50k, Jeff Mullins). Race 4 – Closing Time ($20k, Steve Sherman), Jalisco ($20k, Doug O’Neill). Race 5 – Betterdaysrcoming ($25k, George Papaprodromou), Hot Box ($25k, James Crotts), Yogi Bear ($25k, Sergio Morfin). Race 6 – Petite Ange ($10k, Edwin Alvarez). Race 8 – Doo Woo Don ($20k, Andy Mathis), Nation ($20k, Robert Hess, Jr.).
