Laurel Park 2025 Stakes Plays
Saturday’s (12-6-25) stakes picks from Laurel Park (Races 6, 8).
LRL 6 (Maryland Juvenile, 7f) – Post Time 2:26 PM ET
Primary – #5 CODE OF SILENCE, #8 Tartabull
Secondary – #7 Hell Ofa Hillbilly, #2 Worker Bee
Wagers: #5 to win, Exacta box 5-8, Trifecta 5-8/2-5-7-8/2-5-7-8
Comments: #5 Code of Silence (7-2) rallied for the place in his MSW bow at 10-1 odds. He rallied to finish a clear third in a stakes sprint at DEL second time out and winner Probably Dreaming clicked right back in the Rocky Run and is entered in the G2 Remsen. This one had early trouble and ended up 6th of 13 in the Maryland Million Nursery on Oct. 11, and he added blinkers, returned to the maiden ranks, and went last-to-first as the favorite Nov. 16 (runner-up next-out winner). He is getting faster and can run these down if the pace is honest. #8 Tartabull (8-1) improved his speed ratings in all three starts. He landed the show from the inside post behind romping winner Ewing in his bow and that one clicked right back in the G2 Saratoga Special. He added blinkers at 7f second time out and was 5th of 8 (beaten 14 lengths). Talkin won that race and he returned to land the place in the G1 Champagne, and show finisher Further Ado graduated by 20 lengths and won the G2 Ky Jockey Club last weekend. This one shipped to LRL and stalked and graduated by a half-length Oct. 25. The $310k Tapit colt is out of 11-time stakes winner Anna’s Bandit (won MD Million Distaff in 2019), and he drilled a local 5f bullet for this Nov. 23. #7 Hell Ofa Hillbilly (6-1) was 4-1 in his local Mcl-45k bow and he flashed sharp early speed and won by 4 3/4 lengths at 4.5f. He stalked wide from post 11 and was an even 4th of 13 in the Md Million Nursery second time out. He was restless in the gate, had an uncomfortable trip, and ended up 5th of 7 Oct. 26. Robb is 5 for his last 11 and he drew well and might work out a decent tactical trip. #2 Worker Bee (6-1) is 2-for-3. He dueled and kicked away in his 4.5f bow May 24, and returned from a layoff of 5+ months and had an uncomfortable journey when finishing 4th of 7 Oct. 26 (Hell Of a Hillbilly 5th). He rebounded with a prominent throughout victory at 6f Nov. 21. He should impact the pace for the productive Hazlewood/Capuano team.
LRL 8 (Maryland Juvenile Fillies, 7f) – Post Time 3:26 PM ET
Primary – #4 SLEWPERSTITIOUS, #6 Just Philtored
Secondary – #2 Doc’s Miracle, #1 Project Maximus
Wagers: #4 to win, Exacta box 4-6, Trifecta 4-6/1-2-4-6/1-2-4-6
Comments: #4 Slewperstitious (3-1) followed up a romping dirt sprint debut with runner-up stakes finishes behind Just Philtored on dirt (neck back) and turf (4.5 lengths back). She returned to dirt and won the MD Million Lassie as the favorite Oct. 11 (show finisher next-out winner). A tooth abscess knocked her out of the Smart Halo and she was my top choice before scratching that day. She sports five local works for this, Toledo wins races with Bailes, and she is a contender from off the pace. #6 Just Philtored (9-5) won her first three starts including a debut dirt sprint romp at LRL. She won back-to-back stakes races in August, and was an even 5th of 8 in the G3 Matron at 6T Oct. 2. I made her my top choice in the local Smart Halo at 6f Nov. 8 and she was a clear 3rd of 5 from the inside post as the beaten even money favorite. She gets the comfortable outside post this time and can bounce back with a win. #2 Doc’s Miracle (3-2) is 2-for-8 with three runner-up finishes and she landed the place in back-to-back stakes in September and October. She battled on the pace and missed by a neck in a clear place finish in the Maryland Million Lassie on Oct. 11, and she rallied to win the Smart Halo at 9-2 odds last time. She is a logical contender for the productive Hazlewood/Capuano team but won’t offer wagering value this time. #1 Project Maximus (5-1) is 2-for-3 with a show finish and both wins were at PRX. She earned an improved number when wiring the field as the favorite Oct. 22.
