Check out my Sunday (8-16-26) Del Mar Race 7 analysis below.
DMR 7 (OC-50k/1x, 8T) – Post Time 8:18 PM ET
Primary – #1 GOODIES, #7 Midnight Horizon
Secondary – #2 Miso Phansy
Horse Comments:
#1 Goodies (3-1) finished third in her first two turf sprints. She set the pace and was beaten a length as the favorite in her 6T bow, and she stalked, raced in traffic, and was best of the rest second time out. I made her my top choice in a local 8T MSW affair July 17 and she tracked from third and graduated by 1 3/4 lengths at 7-2 odds. Her winning rider Hector Berrios is 3-for-5 with Phil D’Amato recently, and she should work out a comfortable inside early-pressing trip.
#7 Midnight Horizon (5-2) won a pair of turf sprints in Ireland last year. She moved to the Blacker barn and was 6th of 8 in her needed turf sprint return at SA May 17 (1st start in 11+ months). She stretched out and made up more than 10 lengths in a close show finish at this course/distance July 25 (placed 2nd thru disqualification). Her new rider Umberto Rispoli is a 22% turf pilot.
#2 Miso Phansy (8-1) was placed third through disqualification in the same local turf route Midnight Horizon exits. She was part of the trifecta in 9 of 11 turf tries and she almost always gives a good account of herself.
