#8 See the Fire (7-2) won her first two starts this year in GB at 10T and 1 5/16 miles on turf (G2). She was overmatched in a G1 June 17 and was 3rd of 5 (beaten 7 3/4 lengths) at 10T July 30 (runner-up Friendly Soul next-out G1 winner). She has been facing better overseas company and can win this on her best day. Saturday’s rider Robert Hornby booted her home at 10T in April.
#4 Diamond Rain (7-5) was part of the trifecta in her last seven starts and is the deserving favorite for Godolphin, Charles Appleby, and William Buick. She missed by a head in this event last year and was a close third in the G1 BC F&M Turf. See the Fire beat her May 14 and she was second by a head and 1st by 4 lengths in her last pair.
#1 Gimme a Nother (5-2) is 10-for-14 with three runner-up finishes. Graham Motion’s win type won both of her graded turf routes this year and was a close second in her lone local try in the G2 Canadian last year. She has been well-spotted since arriving from South Africa last year and this is probably the best field she has ever seen.
