Horse Comments:
#3 San Siro (5-2) went last-to-first at 10-1 odds in a dirt route at SAR Aug. 8 (OC-110k, 9f). He rallied to complete the trifecta in three straight G3 dirt routes earlier this year at 9f and 9.5f (twice). His winning rider Tyler Gaffalione stays put and he is a profitable 14% with Brendan Walsh recently.
#9 Parchment Party (9-5) needed a prep race for the Birdstone and they chose the G2 Suburban at 10f. That race was too short for him and was just a means to an end, and he ended up 7th of 11 (beaten 16 lengths). He was the favorite in the aforementioned Birdstone at 1 3/4 miles Aug. 13 and he finished a nose behind Stars and Stripes. He won the Belmont Gold Cup in the slop (off the turf) and the Birdstone last year, and he won the Temperence Hill and Isaac Murphy Marathon at a mile and a half earlier this year. His winning rider John Velazquez stays put and he should be a tough competitor at this trip.
For the underneath slots, I’ll tab two other horses exiting the Birdstone.
#2 Waitlist (8-1) is now conditioned by Benjamin Dunn and he sports three local works for this including a 4f bullet Aug. 26. He reconnects with his winning rider Ruben Silvera.
#5 Carolo Rapido (9-2) ended up less than a length in front of Waitlist when splitting an 8-horse field in the Birdstone. That ended his 3-race trifecta streak and this distance is probably a better fit.
