#2 Jordi Bear (6-5) added blinkers, had early trouble, and ended up a respectable 3rd of 8 in the G2 Del Mar Derby at 9T Aug. 23. He won his 7T debut in Ireland last year and ran into red hot runner Proletariat in his last three starts in this country. Joel Rosario is his new pilot.
#1 He’s a Knockout (5-2) returns to turf and stretches back out. He reconnects with his winning rider Juan Hernandez and he figures to attempt a wire job from the inside post.
#6 Piedra Fria (9-2) stalked and scored by 3 1/4 lengths at 11-1 odds in his 5T bow Aug. 21. Doug O’Neill’s Calumet Farm gelding is bred to handle longer distances and his winning rider Emisael Jaramillo stays put.
#3 Iriseach (7-2) breaks from a post position other than the rail for the first time since February. He dropped out of the stakes ranks and finished an even fourth at DMR Aug. 13. This is his second start with Lasix and Umberto Rispoli sticks with him.
