Horse Comments:
#5 Richi (3-1) had a good record in Chile, and she ran well in all five starts in this country. She dueled and held the place in the Desert Stormer in her first start in this country (June 2024), and she started 2025 with a stakes win in the G3 Las Flores Jan. 4. She was no match for Kopion in a show finish in the G2 Santa Monica at 7f Feb. 1, and she stretched back out, set the pace, and was clearly second best in the G1 Beholder Mile on March 8. She was the favorite in the G2 Santa Maria at this distance April 19 and she made all the running in a sharp victory by 4 1/2 lengths. Bob Baffert’s sharp, fresh mare should be all over the pace under her winning rider Antonio Fresu.
#1 Seismic Beauty (2-1) is probably the one to catch from the inside post. She stretched out and ran them off their feet as the favorite in a flat mile optional-claimer in April, and did the same thing in the G2 Santa Margarita at 9f May 25. She easily handled her stablemate Splendora last time and that one turned back and was a sharp local sprint winner last week.
#2 Royal Spa (6-1)is a better horse this year. She landed the place in the Barbara Fritchie at 7f in February and won the Heavenly Cause as the favorite at one mile in the mud in April. She rallied to win the G3 Shawnee at this distance in May, and set the pace and was clearly second best to Thorpedo Anna in the G2 Fleur De Lis at 9f on June 28. Hector Berrios hops aboard the sharp, versatile mare, and she squeezed in a local half-mile move on July 27.
#7 Kopion (5-2) is an extended sprint specialist. She is 4-for-4 at seven panels and 1-for-2 with a runner-up finish at 6.5f. In a pair of dirt routes, she was second in the G3 Las Virgenes and 4th of 5 (beaten 15 lengths) in the G2 SA Oaks. She won her career debut at DMR and tries two turns for the first time since April 2024.
