Horse Comments:
#1 Instant Replay (5-2) won four of his last seven starts including stakes victories in the Bath House Row and Texas Derby. He could not overcome a speed favoring surface at Horseshoe Indy last time, and it should be noted that he was able to overcome a slow pace and wide trip in the Bath House Row. The patient runner is 2-for-3 at this distance and should save ground behind the speed under his new rider Jose Ortiz.
#2 Fact (5-1) stalked the pace and was clearly second best to Big Truzz in his sprint debut at Keeneland in April. He was the favorite in a flat mile special weight affair at Churchill second time out and he dueled and graduated by 2 1/2 lengths, and runner-up Duke of Duval won his last two starts at Ellis Park This one was the favorite in an extended sprint at Ellis on July 3 and rallied for the show behind runaway winner Big Boat. He drilled a Saratoga bullet on Aug. 12 and William Walden is 25% with this type of short layoff runner. He reunites with his winning rider Luis Saez and he should be forwardly placed in a race lacking early runners.
#3 Tip Top Thomas (2-1) pressed and scored by a head as the favorite in his sprint bow at Saratoga last summer, and he chased, led, and was run down by Chancer McPatrick in the G1 Champagne second time out. He was an even 4th of 9 in his sprint return at Keeneland in the spring, and wired the field as the favorite in a flat mile affair on May 25. He was 5-2 in the Indiana Derby (G3) on July 5 and he pressed the pace and beat Coal Battle by a half-length in a game effort. John Velazquez got to know him last time and the race flow might be in his favor.
#7 Light Forever (10-1) won his last two local dirt routes by a combined 11 lengths and his speed ratings jumped up in those races. He figures to stalk the pace from the outside post and might be in the running for a minor award at a price.
