Horse Comments:
#5 Dandy Man Shines (4-1) is a 2-time local winner and his last victory was in the Let It Ride at DMR in 2023. Since that win, he is 0-for-10 with six minor awards. He drops from the OC-80k/2x ranks and recently hot rider Hector Berrios sticks and he is 2-for-9 with Jeff Mullins recently.
#6 Cathal (4-1) also drops out of the OC-80k/2x ranks and Antonio Fresu is his new rider. He went last-to-first in a local OC-80k/1x affair at this distance last summer.
#7 Jeweled Shillelagh (8-1) went back on lasix, chased from second, and won by a length in a starter allowance affair as the favorite under Rispoli at 8T Jan. 1. He got clear early under apprentice Carmona and missed by a nose in an 8T affair Feb. 1 and the show finisher was a next-out winner. He reconnected with Rispoli and stalked and scored as the favorite from the inside post April 5. He chased from the outside post and weakened to 6th of 9 at 3-1 odds at 8T June 7. Ryan Hanson claimed him for $50k on June 7 and he chased from second and weakened to 8th in a local $50k turf route July 25 (blinkers on). This is his second start after a short layoff and he should be forwardly placed under his new rider Mirco Demuro.
#8 Beef Winslow (7-2) has been popular at the claim box recently and Hess, Jr. nabbed him for $50k July 25. The versatile gelding adds blinkers and is 1-for-5 at DMR and 0-for-1 at this distance.
#3 Ghazaaly (6-1) stalked and faded behind romping winner Pony Express at SA on June 15, and he dropped into a $40k claimer and was clearly second best in a local flat mile dirt race Aug. 8. Doug O’Neill claimed him last time and he switches surfaces and is 0-for-1 on turf. He has not won since 2023.
