Laurel Park 2025 Stakes Plays
Saturday’s (9-27-25) stakes picks from Laurel Park (Races 9, 10).
LRL 9 (Laurel Futurity, 8.5T) – Post Time 4:19 PM ET
Primary – #1 JUTLAND, #4 Proton
Secondary – #10 Kid Charlemagne, #11 Sunrise
Wagers: #1 to win, Exacta box 1-4, Trifecta 1-4/1-4-10-11/1-4-10-11
Comments: #1 Jutland (7-2) improved his numbers in all three starts. He went last-to-first as the favorite in his 7.5T bow at Horseshoe Indy, and was 7th of 9 in the Soaring Free at 6.5T second time out (show finisher next-out stakes winner). He added blinkers, stretched out, and stalked the pace and was clearly second best in the Kitten’s Joy at 8.5T Sept. 6. #4 Proton (3-1) was 1.70-1 in her 5.5T bow at CNL and he stalked and scored by 3 lengths, and the clear runner-up was a next-out winner. Motion is 27% with his first route starters and his winning rider Ruiz is 31% with this barn. #10 Kid Charlemagne (5-1) was 5-2 in his 7f dirt bow and he stalked and finished 4th of 9 (beaten 12 lengths), and the runner-up was a next-out winner. He stretched out, added blinkers, switched to turf, and chased the pace and held the show at KD Sept. 6 (Jutland 2nd). Jonathan Thomas is a profitable 31% in the non-graded ranks and the maiden should be forwardly placed. #11 Sunrise (9-2) was an even 4th of 10 in his turf route bow at SAR. He pressed from post 10 and graduated by a head second time out, and Pletcher’s colt should attend the pace from the outside post. Dam has produced five turf winners (3 stakes winners).
LRL 10 (Selima, 8.5T) – Post Time 4:50 PM ET
Primary – #6 OSCAR ENCORE, #3 Ultimate Love
Secondary – #8 Amberia, #2 Lovely Grey, #1 Celebrity Warrior
Wagers: #6 to win, Exacta box 3-6, Trifecta 3-6/1-2-3-6-8/1-2-3-6-8
Comments: #6 Oscar Encore (9-2) was 7-2 in her 5.5T bow at SAR and she chased from second and won by 2 lengths. She was 5-2 in a flat mile turf stakes race at KD second time out and she battled on the pace and finished 6th of 10 (beaten 3 lengths). She earned a decent number in her bow and I will not hold the KD race against her. She might be the one to catch. #3 Ultimate Love (3-1) took money in both flat mile turf starts and she rallied to win both of those races comfortably. The daughter of Cutlin reunites with her debut pilot Ruiz and he is 30% with Trombetta. #8 Amberia (7-2) romped by 6 lengths in her 7T bow, and split an 8-horse field when missing by a half-length at 6T second time out. She was last of 10 in a G3 at 6T last time. Those races were in GB and Motion has her now and he is 4-for-9 at LRL. She sports a pair of Fair Hill works for this. #2 Lovely Grey (5-1) was 4th of 6 in her debut in the slop (runner-up next-out winner). She raced wide early and beat a next-out winner in a turf route second time out, and she was 6th of 11 in a turf sprint at KD last time. #1 Celebrity Warrior (9-2) was 8-1 in her turf route bow at SAR and she chased from second, led, and held the place. Pletcher’s filly earned a competitive number in her bow and dam has produced four turf winners (2 stakes winners).
