Horse Comments:
#4 Gas Me Up (7-2) finished a respectable 7th of 13 as a 59-1 outsider from post 12 in the G1 BC Mile. His four turf sprint efforts resulted in a runner-up finish at DMR (5T), two wins at WO (6.5T, 6T), and a victory in the G2 Joe Hernandez at 6.5T in December, and he handles one mile. He won the G2 King Edward at 8T in August and finished third in the G1 WO Mile in September. He rallied for the place in the G3 Thunder Road at 8T Feb. 7 and El Potente controlled the pace on the front end. His winning rider Mirco Demuro is a profitable 16% turf pilot and he should get pace to chase.
#3 El Potente (5-2) is 6-for-9 at SA and he stretched back out in his third start off a layoff and easily went al the way in the G3 Thunder Road Feb. 7. He is 4-for-6 with a second and a third at 8T and should make his presence felt from the outset.
#2 Almendares (9-2) rallied for the show as a 37-1 longshot in the G1 Pegasus Turf at 9T Jan. 24. Tyler Gaffalione rides back and he should make his move in the stretch. He is 0-for-6 with four minor placings at SA, and he is 2-for-9 with four runner-up finishes and a show finish at 8T.
#1 Mi Hermano Ramon (5-1) makes his first start since finishing fourth in the G2 Wise Dan at CD June 2025. He won the G2 Seabiscuit in 2024 and missed by a neck in the G1 Shoemaker Mile at this course/distance last year. He drilled a local 6f bullet for this Feb. 22.
#8 Astronomer (8-1) has not won in quite some time but completed the exacta in three of his last five starts and the race flow should be in his favor.
