#3 Palacein (4-1) might be the speed of the speed. The 5-for-13 mare wired the field in an optional-claiming race at Sam Houston on Feb. 17. She set the pace and held the place behind Taxed at Oaklawn on March 16, and the show finisher was a next-out winner. She reconnects with her winning rider Floyd Wethey Jr., and he chose this one over her stablemate Tiffany Twist.
#5 Tiffany Twist (6-1) stalked the pace, moved early and struck the front, and won by a bit less than a length as the favorite in a local allowance race on March 4. She likes this oval and should get pace to chase.
#1 Always Angels (8-1) was an even fourth in the aforementioned Taxed race at Oaklawn on March 16. She rallied to win an allowance race in the mud at that same venue on Feb. 10. She rates a look if the pace heats up.
#8 Thetruthisthetruth (6-1) went 9-for-13 in 2023, and has been a bit unlucky this year. She chased the pace and missed by a head in a Louisiana-bred optional claiming sprint on Jan. 15, and stretched out in the mud and landed the show in the Premier Distaff at Delta Downs on Feb. 3. She turned back and was clearly second best behind Tiffany Twist in a local allowance race on March 4, and stretched back out, set the pace, and weakened to fourth in the Shantel Lanerie Memorial at Fair Grounds on March 24. The 2-time local winner likes this distance and owns early-pressing versatility.
#4 Take Me Serious (7-2) won her last three starts. Two of those races were in 2022, and she returned from a long layoff and wired the field in the local Miranda Diane Stakes in the mud on March 25. She does not need the lead to succeed.
