Horse Comments:
#2 Beatbox (6-1) was 5-2 as my top choice in the Dinner Party (G3) on the Preakness undercard on May 18, and he raced wide from an outer post and did not handle the soft going. Just draw a line through that one and that effort will help inflate the odds. Cherie Devaux’s 6-for-19 horse was in fine form at Fair Grounds over the winter and might bounce back in his second start after a layoff.
#9 Running Bee (4-1) was third as the beaten favorite in the Dinner Party last time. He was a solid second in the Tampa Bay (G3) on Feb. 3, and stalked and scored as the favorite in a salty allowance turf route at Keeneland on April 6. The race flow might be in his favor.
#5 Siege of Boston (7-2) had a rare off the board finish as a 24-1 outsider in the Grade 1 Turf Classic at Churchill Downs on May 4. He reconnects with his winning rider Jorge Ruiz and this is a better spot. He has been knocking on the door in similar stakes races since last summer.
#4 Grand Sonata (3-1) exits an improved runner-up finish but did have lasix that day. He is no great shakes for Todd Pletcher but I like his stalking speed and a minor award is possible.
