Check out my Thursday (7-4-24) Belmont at Aqueduct Race 8 analysis below.
BAQ 8 (G3 Victory Ride, 3yo fillies, 6.5f dirt) – Post Time 4:42pm EDT
Primary – #3 EMERY
Secondary – #5 Autumn Evening, #4 Halina’s Forte
Horse Comments:
#3 Emery (6-5) is 3-for-4 for Brad Cox. She cruised in her debut in the mud at Saratoga last summer, and chased and weakened to fourth as my top choice in the Grade 1 Frizette second time out. She was sharp in her Keeneland return in April, and rolled to a big win in an extended sprint stakes race under the Twin Spires on June 9. Tyler Gaffalione is 3-for-3 with her and Brad Cox’s filly should get pace to chase. Her balanced attack and quality late pace ratings give her the edge.
#5 Autumn Evening (6-1) finished 5th of 12 in her Tampa Bay debut late last year. She moved to the Rick Dutrow barn and graduated in a local sprint on March 9, and the runner-up was a next-out winner. She exits a sharp flat mile win on May 4 and figures to stalk the pace from the outside post.
#4 Halina’s Forte (5-2) was part of the exacta in her first four starts including a win in the local Ruthless Stakes on Feb. 17. She was well-beaten in the Ashland (G1) and Eight Belles (G2), and bounced back with an optional-claiming sprint as the chalk on May 31. She figures to stalk the pace under her winning rider Jose Ortiz.
