Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (1-4-25)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Four front running winners on dirt (8f, 8f, 7f, 8f). The other dirt winner (Richi, 6f) chased inside from third. On the turf course, a 2-1 stalker scored at 9f, a 3-1 stalker won at 8f, a stalking favorite graduated at 6f, a 6-1 closer tallied at 6f, and a stalking favorite won the flat mile finale from post 11.
Five wins for Juan Hernandez. Riding double for Kazushi Kimura. Trainer Bob Baffert saddled four winners. Hernandez rode three and Kimura guided home the other one. Leonard Powell saddled two turf winners.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 1-4-25
Grade 2 San Vicente (7f): McKinzie Street hustled from the inside post and Barnes parked himself outside of that one. Romanesque chased inside and Bullard was outside. McKinzie Street threw in the towel and Barnes ($4) took over, opened up, and cruised home by 5 1/2 lengths for Juan Hernandez and Bob Baffert. Romanesque held the place by a half-length over Bullard. Smooth Cruisein was a non-threatening fourth and McKinzie Street weakened to last in the compact field. Barnes, a $3.2 million son of Into Mischief, ran his record to 2-for-2 and a Derby points race is on the horizon. This was a solid performance and he sure looks like one of the top 3-year-old prospects. Fractions: 22.65, 45.10, 1:09.60, 1:22.15.
Grade 3 Las Flores (6f): Anywho and Pushiness scratched and that left a field of five. BC F&M Sprint show finisher Pleasant was the heavy favorite. She chased early leader Don’t Bring Crazy from the outside and Richi (CHI) stalked inside. Juan Hernandez rode Pleasant and he kept nudging her along, and she did get the better of Don’t Bring Crazy, but Richi scooted up the rail under Kazushi Kimura and that was the decisive move. Richi ($8) was best by a length and a half and Pleasant finished 7 lengths clear of Don’t Bring Crazy. Irish Wahine missed the show by a nose and Wine On Tap trailed. Bob Baffert saddled the 1-2 finishers. Fractions: 22.70, 45.01, 56.93, 1:09.05.
The $2 Pick 6 pool was $164,300 and tickets with six winners paid $1,603.80. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $38.80.

On the turf course, an 8-1 stalker graduated at one mile, a 2-1 presser earned his diploma at 6f, a 7-1 front runner graduated at 6f, a stalking favorite tallied at one mile, and a 3-1 front runner captured the flat mile finale (rail at 10 feet).
Mark Glatt (turf) and Tim McCanna (dirt) both saddled two winners.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 1-5-25
Santa Ynez Stakes (7f): Silent Law made the lead as expected for Hernandez/Baffert, but seven panels was a bit too far. Look Forward ($5.40) was the favorite, and she stalked, got clear, and held off stalking second timer Artisma by a head. Artisma ran a quality race from the outside post and was 4 1/4 lengths in front of clear show finisher Silent Law. The order of finished was completed by Howin, A. Z. Wildcat, Practical Dream, Polyrthene Pam, and Mawu (eased, pulled up, walked off). Mario Gutierrez rode the winner for Michael McCarthy and this was a Kentucky Oaks 2025 points race. This was the slowest final clocking of this race ever. Fractions: 22.14, 44.98, 1:11.46, 1:25.42.
The $2 Pick 6 pool was $90,372 and tickets with six winners paid $12,070.00. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $108.80.
