SA 8 (Anoakia, 6f) #1 Kalypso (3-1) is still a maiden after two starts but is a solid win contender in this spot if she moves forward again. She had an uncomfortable trip from the inside post when finishing 3rd in her bow, and she was dead on the board at 8-1 that day. Baffert’s filly was the favorite second time out, and she set the pace and missed by a half-length while clearly second best that day. She fired a local bullet for this and figures to attend the pace from the rail under Cedillo.
SA 9 (G2 Twilight Derby, 9T) #2 Express Train (6-1) is an unknown commodity on turf and he is not really bred for the surface, but he ran fast in both starts this year and still has upside. The $500k son of Union Rags is clearly talented and I am still not sure if he is better routing or sprinting. He has the dirt numbers to win this, John Shirreffs has good stats dirt/turf, and Mike Smith strings along.
