Belmont at the Big A
Weather: Temperatures in the high 50’s with strong chance of showers throughout the day.
R8: Gr. II $200,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (8.5F, Turf, 2yr Old Fillies)
#4 – Alluring Angel (9-2): Rallied from off the pace on debut at Saratoga going 5.5F over the turf. Trainer Jorge Abreu brought her back at Kentucky Downs in the 6.5F Untapable Stakes where she finished a close second. Kentucky Downs is a quirky track and I like the fact Abreu brings her back on short rest for this one. Pedigree suggests stretching out won’t be an issue. #3 – Pleasant Passage (8-1) gets Irad Ortiz in the saddle and it should be noted he rode Alluring Angel last time out so it’s interesting to see him riding for Shug here. #5 – Im Just Kiddin (12-1) is a NY bred by Mary and Chester Browman and given the weather forecast, this one could be interesting if the race comes off the turf. Plays: #4 to Win, Trifecta Key 3/2,4, Trifecta 3,6/4/5
R10: Gr. I $500,000 Champagne Stakes (8F, Dirt, 2yr Olds)
#4 – Champions Dream (5-1): Broke his maiden on first try going 7F’s which is not small task to do. The pretty grey set fast fractions of :22sec (1/4 mile) and :45sec (1/2 mile) and crossed the wire in 1:23.60. There should be plenty of speed in this race and if this one can relax and come from off of it, I think he has a great shot. #1 – Andiamo a Firenze (6-1) is 2-for-3 with both wins coming over off-track’s for Kelly Breen. Last time out, the son of Speightstown won the Funny Cide Stakes for NY breds going 6.5F’s. #3 – Verfiying (9-5) won at first asking on Travers day for Brad Cox and Joel Rosario. The son of Justify should be forwardly placed in this one but should see some company on the front end. Plays: #4 to Win, Exacta Key Box 1/3,4
