On the turf course, a front runner stole the MSW opener at 8.5f, a closer ran pace the pacesetter at 5f, an 11-1 stalker held on by a head at 8f, and a closer won the Let It Ride at one mile (rail at 30 feet).
Kyle Frey, Juan Hernandez (turf routes), and John Velazquez each booted home a pair. Phil D’Amato saddled two winners.
Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-11-22
Let It Ride (8T) – This race had an exciting finish, but I wish the top two were reversed. 54-1 outsider Law Abiding set the pace but was nowhere at the finish. Spycatcher, a maiden exiting a runner-up finish in the Del Mar Derby (G2), did all of the pace dirty work and led in midstretch, but could not hold off the late runners. Handy Dandy broke through the gate and acted up for a short time. His rider Juan Hernandez was a bit shaken up from the gate incident, but he shrugged it off and climbed back aboard. He broke sharp, sat comfortably in 6th place, and rallied outside while getting the jump on my top choice Script. Getting the jump was key because Script was motoring late and missed by a diminishing nose under Johnny V. Spycatcher fought hard for the show and held that spot by a neck over St Anthony. Clutch Hitter finished a troubled 5th and Time to Party was in a dead-heat for that spot. Degree of Risk, Crazy Dreams, and Law Abiding also ran. The final time was 1:37.08.
Nov. 11 Claims: Race 4 – Baladi ($32k, Hector Palma).
The 20 cent Rainbow 6 pool was $105,757, and multiple tickets with six winners paid $20,543.46. The jackpot carryover stands at $24,212.

On the turf course, a last-to-first closer upset the 8f opener at 11-1 odds, a stalking favorite scored at 8f, a stalker won at 9f, a midpack stalker captured the Kathryn Crosby Stakes at one mile, and an inside stalking favorite graduated in the flat mile finale.
Hat trick for Ramon Vazquez (2 turf route wins). Riding doubles for Juan Hernandez (turf routes) and Flavien Prat (maiden dirt races). Phil D’Amato saddled a pair of turf routes winners and Vazquez rode both.
Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-12-22
Kathryn Crosby (8T): Sugar Fix set the pace and Royal Address (IRE) and Gold for Kitten chased. Bipartisanship ($8.40) sat a great inside trip in 4th, angled out, and ran down the early runners to score by a length under Juan Hernandez. This was another good effort from a Graham Motion runner. He saddled a pair of runner-up finishers on opening day. Gold for Kitten edged Royal Address for the place by a neck, and Sugar Fix completed the superfecta. Beaten favorite Burgoo Alley (IRE) was 5th, and she was followed by Izzy Em, Pulpit Rider, and Warrens Candy Girl.

Del Mar Stakes Recaps for 11-13-22
Betty Grable (CA-bred, 7f) – Fun to Dream ($2.40) won this as the favorite but it was not easy. Taming the Tigress set the pace from the outside post and almost stole this 5-horse extended sprint, but Fun to Dream kept grinding away in the lane and prevailed by a head. The top two were 5+ clear of show finisher All Dialed In. Big Novel and Roman Empress also ran. The final time was 1:22.14 and the top two ran well.
Nov. 13 Claims: Race 2 – Black Storm ($16k, Robertino Diodoro), Italiano ($16k, Jeff Mullins), Joe Don Looney ($16k, Mark Glatt), Shady Empire ($16k, Doug O’Neill).
