Check out my Race 4 analysis at Santa Anita on Friday (4-5-24) below.
SA 4 (MOC-62.5k, 7f)
Primary – #3 FEEL THE MAGIC, #4 De’ Medici
Secondary – #6 Vegas Burner, #2 Palagio
Horse Comments:
#3 Feel the Magic (8-5) got going too late when finishing 4th of 9 in his Ellis Park sprint bow last summer, and runner-up Liberal Arts was a subsequent stakes winner. This one returned in a local MSW affair at 6.5f March 9, and he rallied for the place in a relatively fast race. He is the one to beat if able to run two alike.
#4 De’ Medici (4-1) showed flashes of talent in the MSW ranks but was in too deep vs. the likes of Nysos. He stretched out, returned to dirt, and dropped to this level Feb. 23, and he battled on the pace from the inside post and was clearly second best. E J Won the Cup beat him last time and that one captured the Turf Paradise Derby March 14. Dam has tossed six winners from seven starters and he probably won’t be a maiden much longer.
#6 Vegas Burner (5-2) is 0-for-12 with four runner-up finishes. The MSW dropper is entered for the $62.5k tag and Rispoli is 2-for-11 with Papaprodromou recently.
#2 Palagio (4-1) broke slow and finished 4th of 5 in a MSW turf route March 4. He was third in a Mcl-50k turf sprint Jan. 12 and Aguirre claimed him that day. He hit the board in 6 of 10 dirt starts, and he removes blinkers and should be in the mix for a minor award.
