Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-26-24
Grade 2 Twilight Derby (9T): Atitlan ($14.60) worked out the right ground saving tactical trip under Hector Berrios. He broke from the rail and settled behind Curlin’s Kaos and Wynstock, and he tipped out, hit the front, and scored by a length and a half. My top choice Stay Hot raced inside and last of 7, moved wide around the far turn and rallied widest of all to secure the place by a neck over Cathal (IRE). Curlin’s Kaos weakened to 4th and was followed by Twirling Point, Rothschild, and Wynstock. The final time was 1:49.12 and John Shirreffs saddled the winner.
The $2 Pick 6 pool was $159,988 and tickets with six winners paid $7,122.00. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $94.60.

No riding or training doubles on closing day.
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-27-24
Grade 3 Autumn Miss (8T): Wine On Top ran off and set this up for patient types. He weakened at the six furlong mark and the whole picture changed. Medoro was my top choice and they hammered him in the wagering. He got the jump on the deep closers and it looked like he would hold them all off, but my 8-1 second choice Watchtower ($19.80) was charging late under Diego Herrera and he got up by a nose. Medoro ran a winning race and just missed, and Zona Verde tried hard like she always does and was best of the rest in third. Sneaker, Asean (IRE), Sea Dancer, Tiaraqueen (GB), Tahini, Wine On Tap, and Circle of Trust also ran. The final time was 1:34.35 and Richard Baltas saddled the winner.
The closing day $2 Pick 6 pool was $290,325 and tickets with six winners paid $55,394.00.
