Check out my Sunday (11-10-24) Del Mar Race 4 analysis below.

DMR 4 (MSW, 8f) – Post Time 5:00 PM ET
Primary – #2 SHOFNER, #4 Harry Houdini
Secondary – #3 Magnify, #1 Excel Calculator

Horse Comments:

#2 Shofner (3-1) rallied for the show in his local sprint bow, and stretched out and landed the place behind runaway winner Mirahmadi Oct. 12. They paid $625k for this Medaglia d’Oro colt and John Shirreffs is sending out live runners at the current stand. He sports two bullets for this and Umberto Rispoli stays put and has been winning races with this outfit recently.

#4 Harry Houdini (9-2) was a distant third in his sprint bow last year and subsequent graded winner Muth won that race. He dueled and split a 10-horse field in his needed sprint return and stretched out and was a wide 4th of 8 in the same race Shofner exits. He can go better for a strong third after a layoff trainer Dan Blacker.

#3 Magnify (6-5) was a distant last of 9 in his flat mile bow, and rallied from last of 5 to finish a much improved second at this course/distance Aug. 22. Bob Baffert was trainer through two starts and Tim Yakteen has him now. He drilled a 5f bullet for this at SA Oct. 5, did not work again until Oct. 27, and worked a half-mile Nov. 4. The Justify colt lacks speed and might take too much win action.

#1 Excel Calculator (9-2) is 0-for-11 and might be in the mix for a minor award. He switches surfaces and should save ground stalking the pace under Juan Hernandez, and this is his first start since January.
