#9 Balnikov (6-1) got no pace help from post 11 in the John Henry Turf (G2) Sept. 28 so I will just draw a line through that race. In four prior starts this year, he was a close 3rd in the San Francisco (G3), 1st in the Dinner Party (G3), 3rd in the Eddie Read (G2), and 3rd by a neck in the Del Mar Handicap (G2). He reconnects with Kazushi Kimura and he packs a big late punch when the race flow is in his favor.
#4 Divin Propos (5-1) was the beaten favorite when finishing 6th of 11 in the John Henry Turf (G2) last time and the race flow was not in his favor that day. He stalked and scored at 10T (June 15) and 11T (Aug. 22), and he projects a decent stalking trip under his new rider Umberto Rispoli. He was the favorite in all four turf routes in this country and should offer a hint of value this time.
#3 Dicey Mo Chara (4-1) has not won a race since the 2022 San Gabriel (G2). He hit the board in 4 of his last 9 graded turf routes and he reconnects with his winning rider Flavien Prat. The versatile gelding likes this turf course and finished underneath in 2 of 3 starts at this distance.
#11 Truly Quality (5-2) fired trifecta shots in 11 of 12 starts. He stalked and scored in the Colonial Cup at 12T Sept. 7, and went last-to-first from post 13 in the Singspiel (G3) at 11T Oct. 5.
#8 Nineeleventurbo (8-1) reconnects with his winning rider Antonio Fresu and he lured that pilot away from Divin Propos. In 2023, he won a local 11T affair and missed by a neck in the Del Mar Handicap (G2). The early-pressing type landed the place in back-to-back turf route stakes on July 13 and Aug. 9, and did not seem to care for yielding ground at Hawthorne last time. He will get his preferred firm footing in this race and might bounce back.
