Horse Comments:
#8 Spirit of Esther (7-2) returned to dirt and stalked the pace from an outer post and was clearly second best in the local mud at one mile vs. this kind on July 31. She cuts back in her second start after a layoff and she graduated at Saratoga last summer.
#7 Melle Mel (6-5) aired by 7 lengths in a Mcl-50k affair at 7f in February. She was 4th of 6 in the Any Limit in March, and was 8th and 3rd in her next two starter allowance starts. She was an even 4th of 7 in the local slop on July 12, and she puts blinkers back on and drops into a restricted claimer in her third start after a short layoff.
#6 She’s Complicated (6-1) romped in the slop in a Mcl-30k extended sprint for Bill Mott April 12 and Jamie Ness claimed her that day. She was up the track 11-days later and the top three finishers were next-out winners. Linda Rice claimed her April 23 and she dueled and eased in a local $50k/2L extended sprint Aug. 1. Jose Ortiz sticks with her and she can go better at this level in her second start after a layoff.
#2 Our Lady Peace (9-2) moved to dirt, dueled from the inside post, and finished second as the beaten favorite at seven panels in the mud on July 5. Irad Ortiz, Jr. wins races with Saffie Joseph, Jr. and she probably fits with these.
