Check out my Monday (9-1-25) Del Mar Race 10 analysis below.
DMR 10 (Generous Portion, CA-bred, 5.5f) – Post Time 9:05 PM ET
Primary – #8 LIBERATION, #2 Mohaven
Secondary – #3 What’s a Good Name
Horse Comments:
#8 Liberation (7-2) was 3-1 in her 4.5f bow and she stalked and finished with energy to score by 1 3/4 lengths, and it was 7 lengths back to the show finisher. She was just getting warmed up at 4.5 panels and I thought the added ground of the local CTBA at 5f on Aug. 3 would work in her favor, but she had all sorts of early trouble as the beaten 1-2 favorite. My Love Caroline caused Liberation to clip heels early, and Jasmina drifted in early and Liberation definitely took the worst of it. She made a wide move before flattening out and crossing the line in fourth. One of the stewards wanted to disqualify My Love Caroline and Jasmina, but they opted to take down My Love Caroline and placed her fourth, and Liberation was elevated to third. She sports two local moves for this including a 5f move from the gate Aug. 25. If she gets a clean trip, she can win this under her new rider Antonio Fresu.
#2 Mohaven (5-2) was the even money favorite in her local July 19 debut and she chased the pace from an outer post and was clearly second best (Whats a Good Name 1st). She added blinkers, got in from the also-eligible list, and made the lead from post 10 and wired the field by 2 1/4 lengths on Aug. 10. Runner-up Miss Kona returned to graduate by a length and a half as the favorite on Aug. 30. Cashed finished third to Mohaven on Aug. 10 and was clearly second best behind Miss Kona on Saturday. Hector Berrios chose Mohaven over Liberation and she should be all over the pace.
#3 What’s a Good Name (3-1) was an even 5th of 9 in her 4.5f bow for Asmussen at CD June 6. She moved to the Miller barn and improved nicely in a local wire job from the inside post July 19 (blinkers on). She was entered in the CTBA on August. 3 but scratched and took on males in the Graduation on Aug. 8, and she chased from the inside post and split Sammy Davis and beaten favorite Hero Or Zero. Juan Hernandez rides back and he is 29% with Peter Miller, and dam has produced two stakes winners. She flees the rail and should give a good account of herself.
