#7 Formula Rossa (7-2) won her first two starts and her allowance dirt sprint romp at DMR as the strong favorite on Aug. 3 was a fast race. She hooked classy older mare Sweet Azteca in the G3 Rancho Bernardo Aug. 24 and she chased that rival was clearly second best. She returned from a layoff of four months and rallied for the place from the outside post as the favorite in the G1 La Brea in December. Mark Glatt’s versatile filly retains the services of her winning rider Mike Smith.
#5 Splendora (4-5) ran her record at DMR to 4-for-4 with a sharp victory in the G1 BC F&M Sprint in November. Bob Baffert’s returnee owns early-pressing versatility and she was part of the exacta in 9 of 10 lifetime starts. She reconnects with Juan Hernandez and he has guided her to four of her five career wins.
#4 Irina’s Charm (20-1) returned from a layoff of almost a year and she stalked and scored in a smart OC-50k/1x dirt sprint at SA on Jan. 11. She figures to stalk the pace again and might be good enough to grab a share of the purse.
