#7 Slam Notion (9-2) is 5-for-8 with two runner-up finishes at Laurel. He captured his last three starts including the Maryland Million Sprint and Howard and Sondra Bender Memorial (2-3 finishers next-out winners). The sharp early-pressing gelding will probably track the pace while out in the clear.
#4 Quint’s Brew (9-5) was part of the exacta in all nine starts (5 wins at Laurel). He won four of his first five starts including the Jennings and General George last year. He landed the place in a pair of graded starts in NY (G2 Carter, G3 Westchester), and he returned from a layoff and finished a clear second in the Howard and Sondra Bender Memorial on Dec. 20. He edged Blue Kingdom by a nose in the Jennings on Jan. 17 and he is 1-for-4 with a trio of runner-up finishes at seven panels.
#1 Blue Kingdom (4-1) went 4-for-6 last year and three of his scores were at seven panels, and he should impact the pace from the inside post. He set the pace and was best of the rest in third in the Maryland Million Classic at 9f Oct. 11, and he easily tallied on the front end as the favorite at AQU (7f) in November. He dueled and faded to last of 5 at 1.70-1 odds in a disappointing try in the Howard and Sondra Bender Memorial in December, and he bounced back with a nose defeat in the Jennings at one mile on Jan. 17.
#5 Point Dume (4-1) earned quality numbers in his last two starts. He set the pace and was second best in a dirt route stakes at Parx in December, and he turned back and won at Laurel on Jan. 17. He should be forwardly placed in his third start off a layoff.
