Horse Comments:
#9 Maximum Bourbon (9-2) is 3-for-4 with a runner-up finish on conventional dirt. Phil D’Amato is his new trainer and Flavien Prat takes the call, and he should make his presence felt from the outset. He hopped at the start and finished a length and a half behind Built last time.
#2 Built (3-1) was on the Derby trail last year but was losing ground in longer races and ended up in the Pat Day Mile instead of the Derby. He captured his last two attempts at six panels on dirt and fired a local half-mile bullet for this April 6.
#6 Back Em Up (6-1) exits a place finish in the Army Mule at seven panels. The early-pressing type has a good record at this distance (8 3-1-2).
#3 Be You (4-1) cuts back a furlong for Todd Pletcher and he should get pace to chase. He probably wants a bit more ground but is classy enough to compete with these and should be finishing under his winning rider Johnny V.
