Fast main track and firm turf course. Four front running winners on a speed favoring dirt oval (6.5f, 6f, 8f, 6f). On the turf course, a 5-2 stalker won the flat mile opener, a stalking favorite graduated at one mile, a last-to-first closer won at 9-1 odds at 6f, and a 2-1 closer graduated in the flat mile finale (rail at 30 feet).
Ricky Gonzalez and Juan Hernandez both booted home two winners.
The $2 Pick 6 carryover pool was $320,619 and tickets with six winners paid $73,040.60. The 5 out of 6 consolation prize was $516.80.

Santa Anita Recap for Saturday (10-19-24)
Fast main track and firm turf course. Early speed was strong again with four more front running winners on dirt (8.5f, 5.5f, 8f, 5.5f). On the turf course, a front running favorite won at a mile and a quarter, a 17-1 stalker graduated at one mile, a closing favorite earned his diploma at 6f, and 4-1 early moving stalker Sumter won the flat mile Lure Stakes by a neck (rail at 10 feet).
Edwin Maldonado guided home two dirt sprint winners. Umberto Rispoli and Michael McCarthy teamed up to win the early double (front running routes).
Santa Anita Stakes Recaps for 10-19-24
Lure Stakes (8T): Mike Smith absolutely took the other riders to school in this race aboard Sumter ($10.80). Man O Rose opened up a clear lead and Sumter stalked the pace. Smith made an early move and came after Man O Rose, and he opened up a clear lead and that was the winning move. 13-1 midpack stalker Mi Hermano Ramon made a late bid but the race was already over and he came up a neck short. El Potente stalked the pace and held the show by a neck over War At Sea. Beaten favorite Seal Team (GB) was 5th from the outside post in his first start since November 2023, and he was followed by Man O Rose, Exaulted, Flashiest, and Sarwar (FR). Richard Mandella saddled the winner and the final time was 1:32.90. Smith was interviewed after the race and said that Mandella told him to make the aggressive early move, and it paid off big time.
The $2 Pick 6 pool was $68,669 and nobody had all six winners. Tickets with five winners paid $2,015.40. There will be a Pick 6 carryover of $36,682 when live racing resumes Sunday.

On the turf course, a closing favorite from the outside post won at 6f, a stalking favorite won at 6.5f (not down the hill), a midpack stalking favorite tallied at one mile, and an 11-1 closer graduated in the 6.5f finale (not down the hill).
Hat trick for Juan Hernandez (2 turf wins). Antonio Fresu booted home a pair. Peter Eurton saddled two turf winners.
The $2 Pick 6 carryover pool was $217,929 and nobody had all six winners. Tickets with five winners paid $2,771,80. There will be a double Pick 6 carryover of $153,105 when live racing resumes Friday, and there is also a carryover in the Super High 5 ($27,023).
