#6 Snead (8-1) won two races last year including a romping score by 7 1/4 lengths in his first two turn attempt at Fair Grounds. He was briefly on the Derby trail after splitting Track Phantom and Nash in the Gun Runner late last year. He had a setback and disappeared for 9+ months, and he broke slow and finished 5th of 7 in his flat mile return at Churchill Sept. 29. The $325k Nyquist colt is back around two turns and might go better in his second start of the year under his winning maiden pilot Tyler Gaffalione.
#3 Star of Wonder (7-5) rallied to win both starts around one turn for Brad Cox. The Uncle Mo colt reunites with his debut pilot Flavien Prat and he wins races with this outfit. He earned a quality number as the favorite at seven panels Sept. 14 and is the one to beat if he runs that kind of speed rating in this route race.
#2 Society Man (3-1) easily graduated in the mud in March and it has been all stakes starts since. He stalked wide from post 10 and landed the place in the Wood Memorial (G2) at 106-1 odds April 6, and he raced wide and finished 16th of 20 from post 19 in the Kentucky Derby (G1). He rallied to win the Matt Winn (G3) at 1 1/6 miles June 9, and he went back on lasix and chased the pace and was a clear third in the West Virginia Derby (G3) Aug. 4. He is 0-for-4 with three underneath finishes at 1 1/8 miles. Danny Gargan’s Good Magic sophomore gelding retains the services of Corey Lanerie and he sports six works for this.
